– Sicilian Blacksmith and Anvil

This is what I call a Mediterranean style anvil. The Mediterranean style includes the legless the French short leg “pig” anvil, the Catalan stake anvil and the Italian short legged anvil. This anvil probably has a short stake holding it on the stand.

Historic image from Stereo-Travel Co. – anvilfire collection. Digital restoration by Jock Dempsey
The original of this image was sent to us from an annymous source. The original stereoscopic images were faded and had water damage and light fading. Much of the image was unidentifyable. This restoration is about 15% digital painting.
This is a great image of a father and his sons or nephews working at their outdoor forge. The climate on Sicily is dry enough for most of the year that the bellows proably was left outdoors for months at a time. The image has all the basics, anvil, bellows, forge, hammer, sledge, steel bar, slack-tub and smiths.
