 Foundry Pattern – Perun Anvil

Perun Anvil Foundry Pattern

Photo provided by Perun, Poland
This anvil was designed by Rolf Saladin a blacksmith living in Switzerland and the pattern made by Andrzej Słowik).

This is an unusual foundry pattern in that it is an old style split pattern. Most modern foundries prefer boarded or boarded and boxed patterns. An unusal feature of this pattern is the large “loose piece” supporting the hardy hole core.

Rough Unfinished Casting

The casting above has had flash trimmed but is not finished. Finishing often includes machining the face flat, drilling pritchel holes and hand grinding the horn and other curved surfaces.
